I am looking at buying a binned 4770k as there not going for much more then used price cpu's

It would be under a custom loop with lots of cooling power, if i was to get one where would be a good starting point for hitting the claimed 4.7 to 4.8Ghz

the listing says some may have been de-lidded, what would be the chance of getting one thats been done as doing it myself freaked me out on my old i5

You could always ask for one that's been delided. In terms of DIY one of the safer options I've come across is to use dental floss, I would like to see someone give that try.

Also if your going to water cool this and delid it's worth getting the adjusted EK waterblock bracket for naked chips as the depth of the threads has been changed to account for the change in depth.

I have one of the earlier batches and it runs at 4.9GHz at 1.32v 24/7. Heat is sometimes an issue though as it isn't delidded which is a bit of a shame. Mine will do 4.7 at 1.225v and 4.8 at 1.27 (ish, I don't have that profile since a BIOS update). I asked on the original thread and apparently they are all very similar. I'm happy with mine, just trying to figure out whether I'm daring enough to delid it.

Took 4 of them today, hoping one excels. 4 left, great chips for extreme guys but also enthusiast guys benching on water! Treat them with respect though, good ones are hard to find, even with skylake on the go. Just goes to show how strong 4770k still is for benching!

Stroll on the cold stuff! :D
