Hello all,
I've been with Pipex for years. Since they have been brought out by Tiscali my connection has been rubbish. I've got my MAC code in my sweaty little hands and I'm looking at changing. Any suggestions?

I use Emule to download various things so was hoping to go unlimited. Any good experiances?

Cheers

Pete

PS. If this is in the wrong section could a mod move it to the right one please.

Thanks for that,
they where one of the company's I was looking at. I can only get 1.5M where I am so there value service suits me fine.

talk talk are ace, very cheap and fast, very lenient with there monthly download limit. I also used to have Tiscali and they are rubbish especially during peek hours, they keep on complaining i download to much :P

Talk talk are terrible, Worse than Pipex who you are leaving, So keep well away.

If you have Sky TV, I'd recommend Sky broadband along side it for a cheap connection.

If you do not have Sky TV, Bethere are great as said above.

I can also recommend SKY broadband - me and me brother both game a lot on our 360s / pcs online and it hasnt caused us a single problem (apart from the initial setup problems , which were solved by sky very fast!).

Sky are good for the price, if you have Sky TV and they have access to your exchange. If you want a more premium service you're looking at Bethere, Entanet, Zen, or the likes.
They tend to cost back towards the £30P/M again though, Sky are best value, the others have better Customer support etc.

Be aware nearly no one is TRULY unlimited anymore, most have either FUP, or fixed caps. I went for caps as I know where they are, and they're generous, but others are a bit more subtle, and employ capping on common p2p ports etc.

Talk talk are one of the worst, eclipsed only by Tiscali really.

I'd seriously recommend trying out a better provider. I can appreciate that compared to Tiscali, TalkTalk might seem okay (even though still awful) but try out Be/Sky/o2 or an Entanet reseller/Zen and you'll see a world of difference.

Sky is now truely unlimited.

(No need to italicise it in an attempt to show a spelling mistake. He was correct with 'truly'.)

Be is certainly not anywhere near £30 either.

Currently synced at 24.5MB (your results will vary) and am currently sitting at 269GB downloaded so far this month. They don't care.

Be glad you are getting away from Pipex, I was originally a Bulldog customer which then changed to Pipex then to Tiscali as the buy-outs happened. I transferred my broadband to O2 over a month ago and Pipex / Tiscali are STILL charging me for a line I no longer have. They are truely cr*p and seem to have 101 computer systems all reading something different re my cancellation. Numerous phonecalls to them and failed promises leave me at my wits end. Hope you don't have to go through this nightmare when you change! On a brighter note, O2 - brilliant customer service and setup!

Talk Talk have been very good to me, i've downloaded in excess of 80GB in a month before without any problems, i get good speeds and can download very fast (around 700-1000kb) on my 8mb connection. I dont see why people hate it, its been hassle free and very cheap (also get landline in the deal).

Because you're definitely in the minority with those stats :)

whats it like for everyone else then? :p

Im on TalkTalk.
And currently at 4716 kbps downstream and 443 kbps.
But recently had major problems with the connection, as it kept on dropping out and sometimes had to hard reboot the router several times to get the connection established again.
But at the moment it is fairly stable and at times the connection varies and touches over 5000kbps.
I would suggest going with TalkTalk for anyone really unless it is for light downloading and wants the landline with it.
Im hoping to change to O2 soon and hope all goes well with that.
