Evening all,

Well I'm moving from my comfy apartment with garbage shoots where everything and anything goes down - yes it's bad for the environment but it's nice and easy. :D

Anyway I'm moving in to the house which requires about 17 different coloured bins, what does everyone do with their rubbish in the kitchen? I've had a search and they do "combined" bins but they don't seem very big?

This recycling malarkey is a pain in the ass :p

We have 3 bins, normal, garden waste and recycling.

You moving to one of these complicated councils with plastic, paper and metal bins?

We have a few different types but it's not too tricky once you get the hang of it.

We have 'everyday waste' bin, 'bio/garden waste' bin, metal/glass plastic box, bag for paper and a bag for plastics and cardboard.

It's all separate. The food bin is the best one because it stops the rest of the rubbish stinking. Paper bin is in the living room, normal rubbish bin is in the kitchen and the recycling crate is under the kitchen table.

When I had my kitchen done I bought two bins that fitted inside a cupboard. Unfortunately I wanted it in the under-sink cupboard and after the plumber got to grips with the piping it is a tight squeze for one and two is impossible.

They were bnis that screwed to the base of the cabinet and had a pull-out section. One was split into two for regular waste and food waste. The other full sized for paper/tin/plastic.

In MK they the waste is done: Black sack for general rubbish, Pink sank for plastic, paper and metal, blue box for glass and then a green wheely bin for garden/food.

I want to get a composter to start using my food waste in that. At the moment it is just going in the general rubbish.

The Ikea bins looks quite adaptable and I mean to measure up and see if I can get them to fit in the cabinet. They do a variety of sizes and some stack together. You can get it with lids and also a contraption that screws to a base so you can slide the bin in and out.

At the moment I'm coping by just putting the recycling on the floor and have an old plastic bin for general waste. :s

Brown wheely bin for organic waste (food, grass cuttings). We're supplied with a little caddy with biodegradable liners to keep in the kitchen and lob into the brown bin when full. Liners are provided free-of-charge by the local council.

Blue wheely bin for tins, cardboard, recyclable plastic.

Black wheely bin for everything else (tho we tend to take glass to the bins at Tesco).

Black for general waste including food leftovers
Brown for garden stuff, though we dont really use it much as the gardens are paved.
Blue for recyclable plastic, paper and tins.

Glass and clothing bins in a local park that we use as well.

I wish we had a garden waste bin. I live in a tenement, but I'm on the ground floor and have to tend to the 'garden'. But, I have no where to put the waste. ARGH. I just want a brown wheely bin where I can shove the privet branches and other garden rubbish. It'll be futile trying to pack them all into bin bags.

Otherwise, our bin system is great. Everything goes into the one bag which goes into one of eight (whichever is empty) steel bins at the back of the block.

i live just outside city centre (sport city)

we used to have a black bin for normal waste. a blue bag for paper, and a black box for tins/plastic. and a tiny green container for food waste (like the size of a 6 pint of milk!)

yesterday we got a letter and apparently seeing as everyone would prefer to replce the box and bag with bins, we are also going to have a blue bin and a brown bin.

its going to make the garden look crap!
