Bit of an odd biology question here...

Had a load of x-rays done today *6 monthly check* and whenever I have a chest x-ray for hours afterwards I can taste tin in my mouth.

Can get my arms, hands, knees, feet, lower back x-rayed - all normal..

Chest - tin taste..

Why?

It's really odd - has stayed with me for 7 hours so far today...

One of those weird things I think about while waiting for them to get round to me...

X-rays are usually produced by bombarding metal (usually copper) with electrons... perhaps you can just smell this?

Maybe the X-rays are triggering some kind of chemical reaction in your lungs which results in a nasty taste on your breath.

A vast majority of your taste is made up of smell. Could be your nasal and chest cavaties are still saturated with copper electrons.

IIRC this is common when exposed to any kind of ionising radiation. Might be something to do with compounds being formed in your mouth due to the ionisation of atoms? Then again I'm probably just babbling here :D

I think its quite well known that exposure to some kinds of electromagnetic radiation can result in a metalic taste in your mouth, but I thought this was more microwaves that did that, rather than X-rays

I'd imagine not, as microwaves have much less energy than X-ray and gamma radiation...

Could be the smell thing...

It's just xray any other body part and I'm fine...

Never mind...got another 6 months to wait hopefully. :D
