hi people.

i recently (2day) upgraded from my pentium D, to a e6700 2.66GHz

the reason i chose 2 upgrade right now, is that my cpu temps were around the 90c mark after a tiny bit of css :eek:. this led to it throttling and all games being unplayable.

so i got my C2D (2nd hand i should add) popped in in my p5vd2-mx se (poor board :() with a 4870, went into the bios after booting for the first time ever and its claiming a temp of 74c? ummmmm right.... within 15 secs? so what im asking is is it a problem with the mobo sensor? if so is it safe to ignor and mayby even disable throttling in case the e6700 decides 2 play the same trick as the pent D? and if so.... how?

I'm placing bets on bad heatsink mount. Is the heatsink hot to the touch? If it feels cold that further points at mounting it wrong.

Don't ignore it, and even if you manage to disable thermal throttling please don't. What cooler is this?
 
i had a stock cooler for the pentium D. re seated 3 times with AS5 (aplied correctly) no change. bought C2D with stock HSF, no change :S whatever it is is summin 2 do with the mobo......

EDIT

well installing the core 2 duo changed it but 2 a temp high 4 that cpu.....

I suspect your pentium D was overheating, and your replacement core 2 duo is as well. The stock heat sink is nasty, I'm not sure Id expect it to do well in this heat. How sure are you that its mounted right? Give it a little tug, it shouldn't move at all. Push pins can be dodgy to install.

What's airflow in the case like? What case is it? Photo of contents always good
 
im sure the pins are in correct. i had 2 seat it twice, first time far right clip wouldnt clip in, paste cleaned and reaplied ofc, theres no play in the pins at all, rock solid.

my case is sum crappy x blade 1 *link removed :(

the blue led fans have been replaced cos the blue lights ****ed me off, they are all spinning, and they are all dragging the air the corerrect way.

got 3 80mm fans, 2 of which are intake, and a 120mm @ the back

psu was also replaced by a 730w hiper 1

EDIT

2 make it clear, ive had 2 differnt cpu/heatsink/fan, old cpu re-seated 3 times with 2 differnt thermal pastes, replaced all fans + added a new 120mm fan, started with intergraded gfx, used 2 differnt cards, also replaced psu 2 very good one with 2 fans inside it

PLEASE HELP I NEED MY GAMING FIX :(
