OK Gents, more questions I'm afraid.

I recently received the basis of a p55 rig for free from a relative.

4gb of 1600mhz OCZ RAM and a Biostar T Power i55 board.

The intention was to get an i5 750 with the procedes raised from selling my current gear, only the prices seem to have risen from a steady £140ish a week or so ago to more like £160.

Despite the fact I've already called the i5 660 a stupid chip in several previous posts I decided to look into it (hoping maybe that it had dropped in price to below the 750). In doing so I stumbled across one for £105 - it doesn't seem so stupid at this price.

So I'm now in the enviable but awkward situation of having free kit and a cheap CPU lined up, but the huge possibility that it wont work in my mobo without a BIOS update which I can't do as I have no current CPU :(

In short, does anyone know if I will be able to get the BIOS updated using the currently unsupported 660?

Surely it should at least boot even if the cpu is'nt recognised?

Had a look at the motherboards home page on Biostars website and the cpu is on the support list but it does'nt say from which bios version. There has only been one new bios update since the board was released so you may be ok.

Yeah, but I have a feeling that Bios is for 32nm support, still waiting for Biostar to get back to me about it. Cheers for your input though :)

I'm now toying with the idea of using the DSR to send the chip back if it doesn't play nice, or even just holding out for the 750 to drop again.
