I'm testing out different BIOS, i was sent one from a member on OC.Net which apparently came directly from Powercolor.

I'm not the automatic trusting sort of guy, so i want to open it up in an editor to have a look at it first, i have tried VBE7.0.0.7b and its returns "Not Supported"

Anyone know of one that is?

Not possible yet im afraid.

I spoke with Kaboom on oc.net about this and this is what he had to say.

"Its pretty much the same or similar to Tahiti in the hex. It shouldn't be a problem. Only thing is I don't have one so never tested out editing the bios. Just looked at them to check the differences."

"Its still has the same asic voltage chart in the bios. So the whole offsetting would be the vendors choice. They choose to make the tool this way to seem simply. With them having two voltage tables still as well, one for boost and one for non boost. For ram it would have been fixed voltage with no basic table they still use the off set even though its the same as before with Tahiti. Nothing much different."

I expect it won't be long before something happens.

Flick the bios switch, flash, take a look ;)

Would booting into safe mode help? As it should disable the drivers/3d clocks?

yeah maybe, but i can wait a bit longer for a more credible source, i have never said a word to this guy and he had like 20 posts.

I do like that despite LtMatt being quite active with the 7950 and 7990 BIOS modding, the fact that LtMatt has had 290 Crossfire since before the custom cooled cards were released and the fact he has been quite active in overclocking and tweaking the cards, that you think he just wouldn't bother editing a BIOS and making a thread for the 290 if there was a tool for doing it :)

That'd be like Kaap not buying 4 of whatever the next top end cards are. Possible, but very very unlikely! :D

It would be nice if we could get a custom BIOS for the card, although saying that I'm not sure exactly what you would tweak? As I recall the 7950 BOOST cards (at least the HIS ones) used way more VCore than required and could be tweaked to not throttle. With the 290s, based on afterburner it seems there is limited scope for lowering voltage with black screens, the fan profile might be tweak-able but that works different on 290s (not well in my experience). Anything to stop them throttling would be nice though.

EDIT: I realise this ^^ isn't why you wanted the utility.

Too true lol, nice analogy. I wonder if Kaap will be at the level to open a small LAN gaming cafe yet :D.
