Bios file is .bin and not .rom

The file extension doesn't matter as long as it is a BIOS file. The name will vary by manufacturer. Most BIOS flashers will verify the file before overwriting anyway and tell you if it doesn't look right.

Varies with BIOSes, just point to the file if flashing from windows or type in the file name if in DOS, if its wrong the flash will more than likely abort.

It's an Asus p5n-e sli btw.

My problem is that I've put the .bin and the renamed .rom file on my pendrive and gone into ez flash in the bios but I can't find the file, I have A:, B:, C:, D: and I look in each one but nothing appears ...

I think with EZFlash the filename has to be exact or it won't use it. Probably 'BIOS.ROM' or 'BIOS.BIN'. It should say in the manual what it must be called.

Actually I think looking on the Asus website it can be called anything and you load load it when EZ Flash is loaded.

Yip, renamed only works if you flash it with AWDFLASH.exe AFAIK.

The newer method from inside your Bios needs to be the proper Extension.

.Rom is older and normally GPU Bioses, most Mobo bioses were .BIN until recently (well Asus anyhow).

Simply put the file on your pendrive, make sure it's formatted to fat 32 and then go into set-up during boot and run EZ flash from there. It's really easy! You will see your pen drive listed and be able to select the rom from it. It should be a .bin file.

yeh I know but the file didn't show. I did formato to fat32 and put the correct .bin file on it with no other files but it just didn't work.

I managed to find the windows flash utility and that worked fine.
