Hi everyone,

I see Overclockers are selling the voltage unlocked 290 cards as well as the pre-flashed 290X cards.

My question is:
Are any of the 290 voltage unlocked cards able to be flashed to this voltage unlocked 290X bios? Also is it possible with standard voltage locked cards?

My current AMD card is flashed to a different bios so I am happy with the process if it possible for certain on these cards.

The card in question is the Asus 290 voltage unlocked card.

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Yes, all of the reference 290/X's always were voltage unlocked- they only lacked AB voltage support@launch.

AB can enable any voltage you may be daft enough to put through your 290 series reference gpu, with a simple command switch without flashing anything.

Ocuk are being a bit naughty with their sales pitch. ;)

It's not a hack it's a switch unwinder provided before voltage adjustment was implemented into AB, it just so happens you can go above and beyond the +100mv limit imposed in the current AB.

You can add what you like, be it +200mv or +500mv(stupid ******* mode) or more, all you need is a hex calc to work out the voltage for the switch command.

Got myself a tad confused here, oops!

Okay I'm happy that on the 290 cards we can now adjust the voltage.

I did only have a quick read about this BIOS flash to the 290X BIOS, but it seemed like it was suggesting a flash was required in order to 'unlock' the rest of the stream processors from 2560 up to the full 2816 on the 290 cards.

Can this be obtained just by running up a higher voltage to the requirements or am I totally missing the point here?

:)

The SP unlocking is a result of some 290X chips being used for 290 cards due to good yields and thus not having enough 290-class chips. Only a few brands have been found to be affected: Powercolor, XFX (the main ones) and a couple of others.

Nothing to do with voltage. You flash the 290X BIOS to a 290 and check the SP count in GPU-Z.

It is a lottery as to which cards will unlock the extra SPs. I doubt it will work anymore, but you can check the thread at OCN.
