BIOS forgets settings

Hi all,

Machine downstairs is still having an issue - if you shut it down and turn it off, and then turn it back on a few days later, the CMOS has reset itself, so I keep needing to reset the date/time etc etc.

Tried a new battery, made no difference. It's a Shuttle SN45G2.

Any ideas?

Is the BIOS date/time correct and the date/time is only wrong in Windows? Or is the BIOS date/time always wrong as well? If it's just Windows it's probably either something that is loading with the machine, or the time sychronisation is off (which can be changed in the date and time settings)

I'm not sure if this is the case for Shuttles but some machines have a clear CMOS jumper, is it possible that this has been either set on or created by something landing in the case? Bit of a long shot but perhaps worth checking anyway. :)

You wanna hope that the CMOS jumper aint set to clear or your mobo is more than likely knackered now :(

Powering up a mobo with the CMOS jumper on clear will on many mobo's kill it, this is because when you connect the CLEAR CMOS jumper all it is doing is shorting out the + & - tracks of the CMOS power, obviously applying power to a motherboard that has the CMOS circuit shorted aint gonna do it any good what-so-ever :p
