Hi,
I am trying to reinstall Windows from boot USB.
I don't get any splash screen to enter bios to boot from USB.
I think when I restart I am actually booting from USB as when the USB stick in the black screen just hangs.
I think it's just a display problem.
Windows works fine.
I'm running a 21:9 display via DP.
I tried running a 1440p small er monitor via HDMI but that was the same.

Any help much appreciated...

I can enter bios, that's the problem.
Take it you mean you can't - just to clarify?

Spec list - including PSU?

Try unplugging all none essential components from your motherboard - HDDs, 1 stick memory, etc.. and see if you can then access the BIOS.

Sorry yes can't.
The problem is the display not turning on till windows starts.
Pretty sure I'm entering bios when I smash F2 as windows doesn't start up.

Full spec list?

For now, have you tried:
  • If you have on board gfx, have you tried this?
  • Different DP/HDMI/DVI lead?
  • Checked all leads are securely connected - especially back of monitor and GPU?

I seem to remember some Gigabyte boards do this. Until the bios is correctly set up the BIOS wont display on anything but the onboard display. Boot it up with a monitor plugged in to the hdmi socket in the back of the motherboard, not the display card. Then once you are in you can disable the onboard graphics and everything will work fine.

He may not have onboard GFX/iGPU - but will probably have the socket so this may confuse him, depending on his knowledge.

He needs to clarify his spec.

As above, you've confirmed you have on board gfx so test the above. You could remove one stick or alternate if you don't get any luck first time.

*Have you cleared the CMOS at all? If not try this first, it's a quick and simple test. The instructions will be in your manual.
  • Turn off and unplug your computer - then press the power button on the case to deplete all residual power.
  • Bridge the CMOS pins with a screwdriver or use a jumper pin if you have one (or remove battery for a few minutes - your choice).
  • Power computer and if you get into the BIOS load optimised defaults - and check your setting before F10.
  • *If confused by any of the above post back - but it should be in your manual.

EDIT: PSU, brand and model would be interesting to have if clearing CMOS etc doesn't work.

You never said what version of windows you currently have on your machine, if its Windows 10 then you can get to the bios from within Windows itself, first remove that USB stick incase thats causing your machine to hang, then goto settings - update and security - recovery - advanced startup - restart now.

When the PC restarts it will boot to the windows recovery options, select the option to adjust your computers UEFI settings and it will reboot again straight into the bios.

Sounds to me like you have fast boot enabled which is why its missing the option to enter the bios.
