If anyone can help I am having trouble updating my Bios for my Gigabyte ab350 gaming 3, The problem is it says to download EC FW update tool before updating the bios on the site . So I downloaded the EC FW and updated it, just after the update my screen went black and didn't come back on , so I turned my pc off and back on and my screen is still black . not sure if the update worked or what I should do now.

Best to provide more info like what cpu you are using and can you remember what bios you was on before you tried to update it and then you might get help.

Did you read the warning message it gave you

The bios I was on was F31, cpu is ryzen 5 2600 , i took the battery out of the motherboard for a few seconds , and it booted up and back in to the bios so its back on the F31 , the problem is i dont know if the EC FW update worked , is they some way i can tell if it worked or should i try the EC FW update agian ?

If you try the update again and it says you dont need to update then most likely it worked. I think there are limitations because your Bios chip is 16mb and not 32mb.

its just updates the embedded controller firmware

I did try it again but the same thing happened screen goes black and nothing . I was thinking maybe I have got this wrong it says this in the site - Before update BIOS to F40, you have to install EC FW Update Tool (B19.0606.1 or later version) to avoid 4DIMM DDR compatibility on 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen™ CPU a " so is the EC FW update only if you have 3rd gen and am I ok to just leave the ec fw update and just got to F50a bios.

Did you run it as administrator?

Also, have read if it works it creates a text file saying "PASS". This file should be created in the Update Tool folder.

I've got the same motherboard, and when I ran that tool, I noticed it went to the backup bios which would be a version older than what supports the 2000 series chips.

Removing the cmos battery would reset it to use the main bios. It should have installed successfully but don't quote me on that.

I think I read some where If you have something other than 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen you don't need the update tool, I just updated to F50a everything seems to be working good even my overclock feels better this time , I am guessing it worked but it seems strange to have an important bios update that is so not user friendly .
