BIOS Issue

I've got an old'sh computer that has a dodgy motherboard AM2 socket. I want to completely change the BIOS to another one because there are things I want to change and the current BIOS doesn't have the options of the things I want to change.

I want to be able to change things like CPU speeds and access CPU cache settings. I'm doing an experiment where I need to disable the cache and under clock the CPU for some software I'm going to try on it.

Normally when I'm working on computers I leave the BIOS alone unless I need to change basic things like time & date, boot sequence etc but this time I need to change a bit more than what I would normally change. I've never updated or completely changed a BIOS before. The motherboard is a bit dodgy anyway so I have nothing to lose I just want to try out a few things.

The motherboard post fine but behaves erratically when running Windows or Linux. BIOS battery if fine.

Can I flash any BIOS to any motherboard or does it have to be a specific BIOS for a particular motherboard?

How would I flash a BIOS?

What is the best BIOS that will give me CPU setting?

Thanks.

You can only normally flash the bios with one that's specific to the board.

Flashing is done via a USB stick although sometimes you can flash with in Windows but personally I always go the USB route
