The BIOS works with a lot of the low level settings of the hardware: if your friend changed something in the BIOS and now the machine won't boot the chances are he's changed something to a setting that isn't properly compatible with the hardware. To reset it to the default settings, you need to reset the CMOS, which is usually done using the jumpers.

There are a couple of ways to do it, depending on your motherboard. If you can, grab a copy of your motherboards manual: it should tell you exactly how, usually by unplugging the machine, moving the jumper to different pins and pressing the power button. Or you could do what unknownsock said, but if you had a jumper then I'm not sure if the board would boot without it.

I can't really find anywhere you can buy them without linking to competitors (can't see them on OcUK). They're usually dirt cheap and come in bags of lots, though. Try any electronic component stores you can think of.

Any PC shop should have the jumpers you need to put back on, sure a search on here or google will bring up results as well
