BIOS not seeing HDD

I have an intermittent problem with a HDD. Sometimes the BIOS loses the proper boot sequence and it tries to boot from another disc that hasn't got an OS on it (I have 2 HDD in the machine). On other occasions the BIOS sometimes doesn't even see the HDD that I sould be booting off. The rest of the time all works ok.

I'm wondering if I have a MOBO\Bios problem, or if the HDD is on it's way out?

Has anyone seen this sort of thing before?
 
Try using a different power cable to the HDD, and try a new SATA cable also. Presumably you have installed an OS and have previously used the drive just fine?

I'd grab any data off the drive just in case before you go much further with testing things.
