Hi guys,

I was wanting to be able to quickly switch between my settings for my i5 machine. I currently run it at 4.218GHz and it is very nice, stable, but I would love an option whereby it was stock or slightly underclocked so that I could just run fans at minimal speed (for the purposes of audio recording).

Is there any way of having 2 custom BIOS profiles that could be loaded in the BIOS menu, to save me faffing with FSB, VCore etc etc etc...

Thanks dudes!
Mike

Thanks for that - I will have a look!

I was a 'tard for not mentioning:

M'BOARD: Gigabyte P55-US3L

Tealc - thanks man, imma try that now!

Just got a wired 360 controller... got a little distracted by Dirt 2 =)

I will post my results.

If others have contributions, keep em coming!

Ok chaps,

Thanks to Tealc I now have 2 main profiles on my computer!

On a Gigabyte board it is as simple as he says:

F11 to save a profile (it will warn you if you are over-writing something)
F12 to load a profile.

You have 10 save slots :D

I currently am running 2 profiles.

1: 4.218 GHz OC - IE my standard profile. This has been stable for months and months.
2: 2.56 GHz UC - This is quiet. I only have the CPU fan and a very quiet 180mm side fan running.

Performance:

Both pass stress testing on the Intel burn test.

Profile 1: peaks around 68*c with all fans running. I wouldn't dare test without them :D
Profile 2: peaks around 63*c with CPU and side fan. Very quiet. Side fan would probably be optional I reckon.

As far as the i5 performance goes:

60 GFlops ish on 4.218, 34 GFlops ish on 2.56.

Anyone think I can trim my VCore at 2.56GHz? It is set to 1.32V. My 4.218GHz clock has been extensively tested and is as lean as poss - forget what it is exactly!

Cheers!
Mike

Ambients:

Warm-ish day, warm-ish room. My guess is around 24*c.

Case temp: 27*c.

Profile 1 (OC): 41*
Profile 2 (UC): 41*

With all fans running in Profile 2 it runs at: 37*c

Hmm. Maybe a little much VCore in the UC profile!

You are totally right.

I set my Vc to 1.08V as per manual. Now running at 34*c hottest core. This is more like what I expected. I am going to try to push this lower in the interests of temperature.

There may be a Titan Fenrir on it's way :D

Any thoughts, just post - I thank you for the BIOS tip!! I am going to be OC'ing an i7 870 next week (brother's work station). And I did a Phenom II x3 720 yesterday (other brother) - sadly the Phenom seems to be hit and miss as to how far they will go. 3.6GHz totally stable was where I was happy leaving it for him. I got it booting at 3.9GHz but it failed the stress tests, probably more memory than CPU problems, but he is happy with 3.6, so unlike the dog with a bone temperament that I have with my gear, I let it go :D

Ah the Noctua is a beaut. I am just trying to save a few £££

Now running 2.4GHz, 1.025v. Stress testing with all fans gives 44*c, 33*c idle.

You were right about the love voltages! Going to keep digging :D
