i've been having a major head **** trying to sort out my mates pc. the x-fi sound card wont be detected on his

asus an8-e nforce4 mobo.

i've flashed the bios and ever since i've done that its been worse.

tried so many fixs, anything worth tweaking in the bios to get it to recognize a device?

cheers chaps

its been worse as in before i flashed, it was still detecting it in device manger. i could install the software but i had to re-install it every time i cold booted.

now it wont even detect :(

its XP and yes i have disabled on board sound.

yep tried it in a different machine its fine, tried pci slots

tried this

every single bios revision :D
nvidia chipset drivers cant find the asus ones anywhere
different pci slots
different x-fi drivers
re-stalled windows a few times
stood on my head and prayed to the god of driver compatibility issues

I have the same mobo and the x-fi and I've had no problems like you have.

See if you can get a cheap (really cheap) or borrow a PCI sound card and try that. If it still doesn't work then it could be the bus isn't working or isn't stable.
If the sound card IS working in another machine, it's likely to be the case.
