Hi guys,

Got a 5-6 year old Shuttle SN45G2 which recently has begun forgetting everything when its powered off at the mains. No problem I thought - new CMOS battery time.

However a new battery has not helped. What could be wrong? Broken motherboard?

Could be a borked chip which I think is pretty fatal unless you can find a replacement BIOS chip.

Could try flashing with a new BIOS but I dont think it would help.

Liking the new avatar BTW!

Battery is the most obvious answer, however since you've tried that...

Battery contacts ok? dust etc..
Are you changing any settings it might not like anymore, and therefore is resetting to defaults?

Have you checked the bios clear jumpers?

make sure nothing has made a connection (once had this problem with a fallen screw!!)

if the clear cmos jumper wasnt in the run position nothing would happen when the power button was pressed so it cant be that.

When the CMOS battery is on the mobo use a multimetre to check it has 3v+ in it. I think you use red probe to outside of battery then black probe to earth, ground.
