Hi Guys,

I am just in the middle of a build:

ASUS Barebone V3-P5945GC
E2200
4GB OCZ PC2-5400C5
8500GT

And everything was going well, Windows XP (32bit) installed, updated to SP3, but now when the PC loads up, it gets to the screen:

Press DEL to run Setup
PC2-5300 Dual Channel Interleaved
Checking NVRAM..
Initializing USB Controllers .. Done.
3456MB OK

And thats it, it paused for about 5 - 10minutes, then carries on booting up as normal! After that no issues!

Any idea what could be causing this? I know I won't get 4gb on 32 bit, but can it cause something like that?

Help :)

Bit weird how your BIOS is only picking up 3456MB RAM when you have 4GB, it should pick up all 4GB in the BIOS.

Usually after the RAM has been checked it's looking for hard drives. If you have IDE drives (HDD/CD/DVD) then make sure the jumpers and cables are correct.

You could also try booting with only your main drive plugged in.

How odd...I started it up this morning, and it booted up fine! I did notice yesterday that the chipset heatsink was too hot to touch. Could this be causing issues? All my drives are SATA btw.

Thanks for the reply,

I'm not sure if heats could cause that problem, it does sound like they did though as you were able to cold boot perfectly this morning.

Next time it starts playing up maybe see if you can cool the chipset and try again.

I will leave it running for a while and see what happens after a reboot. Can you recommend a Chipset cooler for my mobo?

I can't personally no, I have never looked into/needed to buy a chipset cooler.

Maybe run Orthos/Prime95 for a few hours and check how hot your chipset gets?
