ok i switched my pc on this morning and it displayed the bios screen as normal then the blinking cursor came up as normal then it just froze at the the blinking cursor without displaying the windows loading screen - i then switched the pc off then on again and it worked.

i'm worried because it might happen again and become a bigger problem until it no longer boots. anyone had this issue? - a google search kind of suggests hard drive problem.

Not sure if this is similar to my vista black screen of death. All I had was the loading screen and the cursor but mine didnt go back to normal when I restarted so I just re-installed the OS.

Just back up your HDD and if it does break then its easy enough to re-install.

Or you could restore your system to before it happened and see if it does it again.

If it is a HDD problem im sure there is some software out there which checks them to see if there ok

+1 to test the hard drive.

Computer getting partway through booting and then aborting could also be a failed windows install or a dodgy overclock.

Out of the three I'd be most inclined to blame windows, but I seem to break XP installs fairly regularly. Good luck
