Bios setup help please

I've just built my new system comprising the following;

Intel Core Dua E6850
Asus P5N32-E SLI NF680i SLI
INNO3D GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB
OCZ 2GB DDR2 PC2-8500
NEC Sata DVD-R
Antec 900 gaming case
600w OCZ GameXstream psu
500g Seagate Sata2 HD
160g Samsung Sata1 HD ( 2 or 3 years old )
Vista Home Premium

Everything is running fine but the memory speed is reported as 667mhz where it should be 1066 being pc8500. I've just updated the bios to the latest version. There are lots of settings in there, I tried unlinking the cpu fsb and memory speeds and setting the memory to 1066 but it wouldn't boot. Can someone tell me exactly how to set it up correctly please?

not familiar with yoru bios but when you set the ram to 1066 did you also changce the voltage to the ram ?? as it has probably defaulted to less then what the manufacturer reccomends

No I didn't, shouldn't the bios, with everything set to auto, set up everything correctly? it's not like I'm trying to overclock it, just trying to get it to run at the speed its sold at.

Thanks for the reply

Can someone give me some detailed halp on how to get the cpu/memory running at the correct speed please? with everything on auto the cpu is reported correctly, 3ghz with 1332Mh fsb but the memory is set at pc5300 ddr333 ( which I assume is 666Mhz ). It's supposed to be pc8500, 1066 Mhz. So far any attempt at setting the memory at this speed has resulted bluescreen crashes, even with memory voltage set to 2.1v.

Am I going about this the correct way? In the bios I set the AI Tuning option to manual, then the fsb - memory clock mode to linked, then the memory ratio to 5/4, doing this then setting the fsb to 1333 gives the memory at 1066. Problem is the system hangs on reboot.

Also, what are these sli memory settings for? are they only for use with 2 graphics cards?

I'm getting really confused now, and a bit annoyed I've paid so much for high spec memory which I can't get running at its rated speed. If I wanted pc5300 memory I would have bought some and saved some money.

Any help greatfully received.

For reasons of compatability, most high speed RAM defaults to running at 667MHz and timings of 5-5-5-15 at 1.8V. That's normal.

In theory what you are doing should work, so it's possible the motherboard or RAM is bad. Have you tried swapping the memory slots to another pair as sometimes one pair of memory slots work better at high speed.

Also - do bear in mind that that motherboard isn't actually rated for PC8500 RAM, only PC6400.

The SLI option only works the the N.O.S Automatic overclocking switched on and it's actually carp, so just leave it off. I'm not actually sure your RAM supports it.

Thanks for the reply. Looking at the OCUK ad for the mobo it would be very easy to mix up the cpu fsb capabilities and the supported memory, this is obviously what I've done. So, I should be aiming for 800Mhz+ for my memory speed not 1066?

The OCZ memory is SLI capable, it has great big SLI logos on it, so your saying don't worry about that and leave it switched off?

There are many other settings in the bios, such as spread spectrum and nvidia ex, system clocks, intel speedstep, enhance C1 etc etc. Should I leave all these alone? are there some I should change?

thanks again for the reply
