I suspect that this might be a really noob question but if it is I can't figure out why. I've just put 8gb of brand spanking new memory into my Asus P5B mobo and am quite surprised to see the bios showing me as having only 7168mb of memory (Vista however is happy and shows 8gb). Is this normal? Is there something like the old harddisk marketing 1mb really equal 1000 kb and not 1028 going on? For the record the RAM is Kingston HyperX 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 8500C5 1066MHz Dual Channel from OCUK.

Dooh! That's it, yes I have a rubbish graphics card that shares RAM with the system (I don't really do any gaming). I guess the BIOS must be reporting what's left after the card has taken its share.

edit: It's an ATI x1050 just in case you were wondering ...
