Computer Information:
Compaq Presario S5100UK
2.0ghz
AMD Athlon xp

Issue:
My computer turns on as soon as I turn the plug on, without me touching the power button. Time and date also always reset. A screen comes up while booting for a few seconds, which says "Default BIOS settings have been loaded due to BIOS update or checksum issue." I have tried taking the battery out for a few minutes, and then putting it back in, but it didn't change a thing.

If any of you could help, I'd appreciate it greatly. I love this computer, and I don't want to replace it.

If its losing time/date and settings then that usually indicates it needs a new battery.

My PC does this when ever it is turned off at the plug, which is hardly ever. We kept getting power cuts a while back and my BIOS had reset every time. That was very annoying, especially when it was at least once a week.

Is this a simple matter of replaceing the battery and then it will all be fine?

Are they any special kind of batteries or will I be able to get them from asda/tesco or some place online?

It'll be a standard 2032 I imagine, most motherboard batteries are IIRC.

You can get them in most electronics shops (i.e. mainly competitors).

I just had a look in my battery drawer! I have one!

I'll check inside PC tomorrow to compare, many thanks!
