Bios Update has killed the PC! HELP!

Hi everyone, i am in desperate need of some advice...

basically, my usb devices such as ext. hard drives and ipod weren't being recognised (or if they were, they wouldn't stay connected for long) so after reading a few threads, it seemed apparent that a boost from 1.5v to 1.6v on the SB voltage can sort the problems... it did indeed make the usb stuff work but at the expense of making the computer unstable...

so my next port of call was to update the bios, i dont have a floppy drive so used WinFlash, i followed the instructions on the DFI site where it states you should tick "update all" and also "clear cmos", so thats what i did...

the update seemed to all go through ok then asked me to restart the pc... i did so but to only be greeted by a blank monitor and long loud beeps coming from the mobo.

i tried clearing the cmos from the jumper and when i switched on after that, it switched on for a short time before restarting, did this twice, then went back to the long beebs (maybe 3-4 seconds long and a gap of about 1 second - this continues indefinately)

i've been onto OcUK for advice, but they just want me to RMA it but i have two issues with that... 1) i NEEEEEED this computer working today as it is a work computer and very vital data is on it that i need to access, and 2) this is my 4th mobo with this pc setup and i finally thought i'd found a model i could trust (been through gigabyte, asus and abit and finally went for this) - thought i'd found a keeper :(

so, and advice would be GREATLY appreciated, how do i get her up and running again? it is crazy that a bios update following DFI instructions could go wrong like this :(

Thats normal, you just need to clear the cmos properly.

Look on whatever dfi-street is now called, and angry-games posted the method, it involves moving the ram sticks aroung iirc

In the meantime, take out the battery, unplug the pc . press the power button. move the jumper and leave for 10 mins, then put everything back, might work

One thing to remember for next time:

Phooww. That would have been the last thing to do on an unstable computer :)

the thing making it unstable was the increase in SB voltage... i put this back before flashing ;)

A powered USB hub will probally help. You are asking too much of the motherboard.

It's worth buying a decent quality powered USB hub as not only is the power requirements easier to handle, but it is often tidier on the cables. :)
