A few strange things going on eg TV card no working correctly etc, so I decided to do a BIOS update, using the BIOS EZFlash thingy in BIOS. But would not detect USB drive with BIOS file on it.
So thought I'd give the windows Bios Update a go.
Said Erasing BIOS OK
Flashing BIOS OK
Verifying BIOS FAIL

I re-tried and it says cannot read BIOS, even when I open the Asus tool it says "cannot read Asus BIOS"

Now the PC has not shut down or anything, Bbut I'm scared to turn it off incase it won't re-start!

Any helpful suggestions would be great!

Going to assume you've got to close it down sometime, so make a CD with the BIOS file on it only and reboot (don't shut it down).
ALT + F2 at boot should launch EZ flash, and do it from the CD you made.

Fingers crossed I guess.

Yeah, I see that now! But why supply such software?
Turned it off, now it won't start or do anything, no bios text, just blank screen. looks like the bios is missing or corrupt, I've tried booting from the utility cd but it doesn't boot or do anything.
I don't think it has a removeable bios chip.
Is there anything I can do now?

It is 11 months old so I can send it back, but is this an acceptalbe reason for return? Should I say that I tried to update the bios?

If you like - it's normal use to flash the BIOS with the manufacturer's tool. If you're worried about it, just say it's dead. Most places don't care anyway. If the mobo won't boot, they send it to ASUS who will issue another one.

Ok, just wondered if there was something I could do myself, I couldn't get the AFUdos?? program to load from a disc either.
Thanks for the help!

Never ever use a windows based utility to update a BIOS.

Funny you say that...but through windows i ain't had one board go dodgy and flashed many of times in past....you just got to make sure there are no programmes (firewall etc,) running that can interupt the flashing process....only got my P5K-E recently and just over a week ago thought i'd update via EZ flash...it run it's coarse then said restarting in 5 seconds and that was tha last picture i seen...anyway rma'd and this time i flashed it same day i got my replacement as bios was 0703 which had bug to 1006 via windows...worked a treat...and also went back to 0602 same day...using older update utility...so if i need to flash again in future i will use the update utilty.:)

@ jamous...looks like you got a dead un!
