I have just upgraded the Bios on a old P3 Dell system and I have noticed the CPU heatsink is hot to touch even with the case off.

Is it possible for the bios to have an impact on the actual cpu's temperature? Im sure it never got this warm before.

Chris.

Yep,

This happened when I flash my old ABIT KT7a motherboard, socket A. used to idle at 35c. After the Bios flash idled at 42/45c. Something to do with the idle state.

BIOS updates can contain improvements to the way that the CPU temp is measured ie the temp is read more accurately but I don't think that it will physically increase the temperature.
