Hi there

i am trying to install windows vista on a mate's PC. recently purchased the retail copy of ultimate but refuses to boot.

it get's as far as "press any key to boot from cd..." and then restarts

things i've tried so far:
- changing boot sequence in BIOS rather than just hitting f12 and choosing DVD drive
- use a PS/2 keyboard rather than a USB one
- make sure it's not the computer by putting in a Windows XP CD (boots fine)
- made a copy of the vista disc to make sure thats not the problem (still doesn't boot)
- tried the vista disc in another computer (boots fine)
- tried the DVD drive out the computer that did work fine (still didn't work)

so i concluded it's not the disc, it's not the drive and it's not what i'm doing (pretty sure anyway :/).

so i tried installing vista from within XP (non upgrade), copied files across fine. when it rebooted, the computer came up with a black screen with white symbols everywhere and rebooted.

I'm sure it's something 2 do with the hardware, so i was going to try a BIOS upgrade but the asus website is down.

I would be very greatfull if someone who has experienced or knows of this issue to help me as much as they can.
