bios update on acer aspire 5601

Hi guys, ok so I bought 4gb (2x2gb) of ram to replace the 2x 512 sticks in my acer aspire 5601 laptop. However after 20 mins of not booting I found out that it needs a bios update to see more than 3 gig. So I have been stuck using 2.5.

I have tried updating the bios using the tools on acers website but no luck.

Can anyone esplain to me properly how to do this?

I am not aware of your particular model but:
If the update is through windows ensure that you have antivirus turned off when updating -ensure the bios zip file is unpacked to use it.
If through DOS - then its usually having the bios file unpacked/ unzipped on a floppy or on a USB drive.
