bios update or not

Just realised I installed the original bios for the old EX58-UD5 mobo after a fresh install. Just looked it up and there are about 10 revisions of the mobo bios .. should I update to the latest straight away or go one at a time until the latest?

Depends how stable your overclock is, to be safe prob best to run stock then reapply the oc afterwards.

Doesn't matter.

However I would say that there is no point in updating bios unless there is a specific reason to do so.

Also how did you accidentally revert to an older bios version, it's a specific process that you can't do by accident. Are you referring to mother board drivers rather than bios?

General consensus is that you should only upgrade if your experiencing a problem, I.e if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

That said, I upgrade mine when I have no issues so go for it!

bit the bullet. Took away the overclock and updated to v13 from v1. The updates included running with DO stepping which is what I needed anyway. I have restored the overclock and it's stable and cool. I do seem to be having a problem with the ram. It will not take the xmp profile at all (unlike with the old bios). I have manually set the speed (1600mhz) but cannot seem to get the timings correct. It is supposed to be 9,9,9,24 but I can only seem to reach 10,11,11,28 ?? The voltages are correct .. Should i just set the timings in manual as they should be?

Try entering the values manually - no harm in giving this a go. The XMP profile does not work correctly on my system either, my ram values are entered manually and its running fine.

Its all a bit weird at the moment. I set the voltage at 1.5 as per ram specs. In bios this gave the correct 9 9 9 24. If i check in cpuz it says 10 11 11 29. Im also not too happy with the over lock. I had it all set up according to the gigabyte guide and it was fine. But now it seems to be jumping between 2400 and 4000 ghz and its not smooth at all. Fast .. cool .. but not smooth. I will try manually settings for ram tomorrow.

xmp did not work for me either on that board and updating to the latest bios made the bios seem slower/sluggish.

I know some say to only update the bios if you have an issue, but I find nowadays early release bios tend to have lots of bugs in them so I just tend to update to the latest bios each time regardless.
