Bios update outside the case

When you update the bios without the cpu, how do you guys normally do it?

last couple of times I just placed the mobo on to the box it came in and put the PSU on the table next to it, plug the cpu power connectors and the 24 pin rail and then plug the USB in and follow the instructions of the brand.

Is that an ok way of doing it?

Yes. Just don't place the board on the anti-static bag.
