Now I've done countless of these and never had an issue, wack it on my usb drive, plug it in and update the bios.

The problem I'm having now, its not detecting my USB drive nor finding it on a cd I just burned with it on.

Its looking for a rom file I think where as what I've downloaded is a .bin file. Should I just rename it and try? I've tried googling this problem and it seems I'm unique.

Asus Striker Formula II Socket 775 - Checking from first to last on bios version they're all .bin files. What the hell is the fault!?

Argh :@

Not even renaming the files to .rom makes them show up. I'm really out of ideas for this, I have absolutely no idea why it wouldnt be just seeing the USB drive or seeing it on a cdrom. My last try now is a dvd but cant work out how to format it with fat32 as I dont think udf will be seen.

I'd just use the motherboard as it is but.. I need the bios updated so it'll use the cpu lol..

Raging a lot right now :@

Edit:

Tried another usb drive (both of these are under 2gig which is whats required)
Tried the cd/dvd

I'm really lost on what the f0rk to do D:

Watching the USB drive, it powers on on boot.. but in EZ Flash when I tell it to look at that drive.. it doesnt seem to send power to it for some reason, same with the cdrom.. it doesnt physically check. I think that maybe the problem.. and without that, I cant update the bios :(

Any suggestions?

is there a .bat file that executes the flash? It may need amending to xxxx.bin from xxxxx.rom in the command line.

bios update

if you are feeling brave asus normally provide a live bios update program - boot to windows - run the bios updater and it grabs the latest bios from the web.

Its not something I normally recommend doing but I have resorted to that method myself when the bios file kept failing to download and all went well.

I have it as a .bin file already so I'm thinking as it says in ez flash "rom" for the file types it wants a rom file but that cant be right, must just be a typo or they say rom but mean bin or something.

I cant boot into windows, it doesnt get past the loading screen which is due to the cpu I believe. Had the same problem on previous boards that when they were released the cpu I was using wasnt out so requires a bios update :(

I know the HDD works to as I only just did it and tested it. The ram works to, the graphics card to.. its purely the motherboard at fault.

Any other suggestions or I'm gunna bay it I think.

cpu

do you have any mates who have a processor to fit your board that they could lend you allowing you to boot.

Worst case you could buy a 2nd hand 775 celeron chip to boot with for I would guess around £20.

Have you tried reseting your bios back to factory settings incase its a fault with your current bios??

The bios/board is at factory settings - its been in the box since I got it me and my mate were building a super rig back then and just couldnt get it to work (I know now its the bios but back then I was clueless!).

I even tried the save function in ez flash and it wouldnt even see that after - checking it on my pc, its not even on the drive heh.

Its definately something to do with the flash program not actually trying to read the media I'm telling it to. I tried all the usb slots, after individual reboots (with it in the usb slot from a cold start)

No body I know has a cpu that I can try unfortunately - I think I'd be better off putting the money to another board

Hi ToejaMz0r, i have a E5200 you can borrow.

If this is suitable, trust me your address and i will send it to you on friday, just stick a couple of quid in the envelope when you return it to cover p+p.

I think I sent that right, first time I've used trust.. ever.. greatly appreciated!

Will be the last thing to possibly try I think, if I can get it into windows and update it through the utility in windows that should be golden.

Thanks again :)

I have it already, its sat right beside me. Was here when I got back from work, I'll give it a whirl tonight :-)

Aye twas very quick and a saturday delivery to!

So for some reason I've managed to get it to read a cd, perhaps with your cpu in thats fixed the problem as if it cant use the other cpu it makes sense that it doesn't know how to compute simple tasks.

I've updated the bios, hurrah! I'm just installing windows onto a spare HDD with your CPU installed just to make sure its not a board problem. I do already have it installed on the drive but its set to AHCI mode and guess what... my board doesnt have that, hurrah!

So just waiting for it to finish doing its thang and then will swap the CPU's over and see what the happy haps are.

Progress!

Success!

Everything is working fine, I've yet to see if it can do what I want though: Server wise (mostly)/spare pc wise but we shall see.

Definitely couldnt have done it without your help freddie, I really appreciate you loaning a complete stranger some of your hardware. I'll get the cpu cleaned up and sent back out to you asap, probably be Wednesday (as I'm off) I'll be able to send it out though I maybe able to get it out tomorrow.. depends if it rains, I'll take the baby for a stroll to the post office through the ghetto of Newport :D

Either way I'll let you know when its en route.

Again, many many thanks!

Good to hear you got it sorted.

Glad i could help, CPU was just sitting in the box unused (my spare in case any thing happens to my htpc).

This is why i joined this forum. Nice people like you.

OP glad you got it sorted. Following this thread helped me sort another pc out too :-)
