I have a GA-965P-DS3 (rev. 1.0) mobo and I am getting a Q6600 in a few weeks. With bios rev 8 it can support this (according to the gigabyte website)

My question is

Will I be able to update the bios to atleast version 8 with the Q6600 installed? or will I need a another proccessor that runs on a lower verion to install the update?

Many Thanks

flash it before putting in the new chip :)

Hey, you see I havent got an old chip, the Q6600 is the first thing to in it (Atleast I hoped) Will I be able to flash the bios without the proccessor being reconised?

Thanks, Im still new at this!

to be honest i think you're best bet is to find a friend with a skt 775 cpu and use that when you flash it, unless you have a later revision of the motherboard that has the proper BIOS

It's maybe worth a try, it may boot but be unstable and/or be missing certain features.

I would expect you'd have to flash using another (supported) CPU though. :)
