Ive got a ASUS P6X58D-E motherboard and I tried updateing the Bios using ASUS Liveupdate, It deleted my older bios installed new one but couldnt verify it so now im left with no BIOS I think, I havent turned off the PC yet as im too scared incase it has gone, Ive got both new and old bios roms save on my computer. Could anyone please help me out here as to what I should do? Is the motherbord a write off? Help is Greatly appreciated.

If you have the old bios rom saved on your hard disk, all you will need to do is reboot, and choose to enter the EZ - Flash utility, and then find the rom file and install that way. It will read from your hard drive, as thats how i flash my bios, so saves using pen drives or CD's.

Now i can't tell you 100% that it will load, as you say you can't be sure if there is a bios there or not now, so i would wait abit to see if any others reply, so you can be sure to do it or not.

But using the EZ-flash after boot up is the best way to flash it, aslong as you have the saved rom files on your main drive or back up drives.

So i will give this disclaimer, i cant guarantee what i said will work, if there is no bios there, it should, but i can't guarantee it, as iv never had that issue myself.

So wait a bit to see if anyone else replies, before trying it.

Normally the Asus motherboards have 2 BIOS chips, one containing the original BIOS that was installed at the factory (unless you changed it using the EZ-Flash utility, it's a specific option)

The horse has now bolted but NEVER use a software based (windows etc) flash utility. Always try and do it through DOS, it is much safer.

Some years ago I updated the bios on a new build PC with an ASUS board, via their Windows live update and it completely bricked the motherboard, due to a bug in their update software! I found out the hard way it's always a good idea to use DOS or the EZ Flash utility instead. Far less to go wrong.

ASUS boards have a feature called 'Crash free BIOS' which should help you recover from a bad flash. It'll be detailed in the motherboard manual.

ive ordered a new bios chip was only £12 from biosflashuk, well ive learned my lesson there!! all part of my PC adventures haha now ive gotta wait till saturday to play F1 2010, gutted.
