BIOS update using USB stick

In this article Toms Hardware use a USB flash stick to update the motherboard BIOS. They say they have made it bootable using the HP utility here.

Couple of questions:
- would that HP utility work with any brand of USB stick?
- how would the BIOS update usually be done - would it be an .exe file that has to be run from a command prompt?

You can see I am out of my depth

what board ?

The Asus mobo I have has a section in the bios pages to update from a stick. Best bet if you are unsure is to go to the manufactures web site. AFAIK they all have utilities to use and instructions.

I've used the HP utility in the past with a couple of no name USB sticks. Worked fine.

Whereabouts in the BIOS for ASUS is the option to upgrade via USB Stick?

I've got an ASUS P5VD1-X mobo

Hi
Ezflash is located in the tools menu in bios.
Try putting the new bios on the usb stick i think ezflash will detect it.
