I want to update my Rampage Bios but I dont have a floppy drive. Can I do this from a CDROM? I dont even have a USB stick although could probably get my hands on one assuming you can do it from a usb stick.

Never done this before so any help would be great.

Sorry for the Noobness.

My Asus P5Q Deluxe board as a utility that allows you to do it from within the BIOS (under Tools tab). I think the Rampage is a newer board so should have it too?

All decent modern mobos let you flash from a USB stick. Get a cheap one, format it as FAT, load the binary on there and head to the EZ Flash option in the BIOS.

Thanks guys. I have a USB Hard drive.

I'm burning it to a CDROM now so will try that.

Asus say to rename it, do you know if it matters what you rename it too? I just called is RAMPAGEFormula.ROM

I can't remember having to either rename it or burn it to CD. EZ Flash read it straight from my USB HDD if I remember correctly.

Ummmm.... installed cooler properly?

A quick (but some might say dangerous) and easy test I usually do when I think temps look higher than they should be is to push down on the cooler a little while keeping an eye on temp readings.

Also have you verified the BIOS was flashed correctly? It should display the current BIOS version somewhere.

The temps werent being read at all, RealTemp was showing 0 movement during the sensor test. Chip is being RMA'd.

Bios flash worked ok, it shows the version on the post screen.

Thanks and hi neighbour lol

You don't have to rename it, but if you have multiple files to choose from then it can be easier to find on a drive or CD. In BIOS, only the first 8 characters are displayed, then you get a ~ character. An example might be "ASUSP5Q~" instead of "P5QE1201BIOS.ROM".
