Hey guys,

Will I need to do a BIOS update for the Asus P6T7? I was planning on splashing out on the 980x, but then I realised if I had to update the BIOS, I'd have to buy an older i7 chip just to update the BIOS ( or keep it to play around with ). Cheers,

AJ

well the site claims the 980x is supported from bios 0607 onwards.
seeing as it appears that the first bios for the board was 0210, i would ask the retailler where you got it/are going to get it from to see what version that batch of boards are flashed with

edit: 0607 bios was released on 9th marth 2010, so i doubt it.

thinking about it, the board may not recognise the processor, but you should still be able to boot far enough to get it into a bios flashable state with it.
failing that, try the emergency recovery procedure using the newer bios ;)

Its a bit of a gamble though isn't it? Installing the chip, thermal paste, heatsink, just to realise that I need an older chip to flash the BIOS? Looks like I'm out of pocket by another £200...

I only know one person who's gonna get an i7 as well, and he's on his pc almost all day - but cheers anyway guys.
