*pre-post* Didn't know where to post this so apologies if it's in the wrong section.

So as in my sig, I'm a noob who's going about learning how to do all the important hardwares and softwares of a computer... Recent purchase is pretty expensive, so don't really fancy bricking my board.

Mobo is Maximus VII Hero. I've tried using the EZ Flash in windows but it stops at what I presume 100% and doesn't confirm anything/come off "Updating" so I cancel it. I know you can flash directly in the BIOS, but I'd like to know the process, as well as if the USB drive needs to be completely empty, bar the update files (can it cause complications if not?)

Thanks!

Do not use windows flashing software to update the bios. Always use the bios tool. Version 2012 is the latest for your board. Download it, unzip it and put it on a usb stick (doesn't have to be empty but is easier if it is). Reboot, enter the bios in advanced mode, go to tools and run Ez-flash 2. When prompted select the bios you have put on the usb stick and after being asked if you really, really want to proceed select yes and it should flash the bios. When complete it should then reboot. If you are overclocked make sure you write your settings down first.

Does the memory stick need to be in a certain format?

There's a new 2201 bios.
I flashed mine to it via windows no problem, are you sure you are hitting flash to actually start it? (I did that once)
