In a new build pc got
GeIL EVO Leggera 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit
on a
Asus P8H61-MX mobo

when I enable xmp mode in the bios it correctly detects the memory settings of 1600 9-9-9-28-2n1.5v

upon reboot the boot screen reports overclocking failed and have to set it to auto which sets the memory to 9-9-9-24 at 1333mhz.

how critical is this and does it have anything to do with random bluescreening. (win7-64bit) code 0x00000050 ?

turns out that the 15-2500k processor I have doesn't support 1600 ram.

Although the internet is full of talk that 1600 ram ought to run at 1333 fine, apparently it doesn't in these circumstances. Perhaps that's because I have a relatively cheap motherboard. I got some more stability by fiddling with the cas settings but still blue screening with memory management errors. Seems the best course of action is to not use the pc and get some 1333 ram that the xmp mode will be in spec.

bios updates scare me. In any event works perfectly with the right ram (1333). I'll keep the others for if/when i get an i7 upgrade.

The 2500K will run mem at 1600 easy. Blue screen 050 is memory yes. Either timings or Voltage. Why not up your voltage on RAM to 1.6v and retest.
