I've just bought a new harddrive, and installed ubuntu onto it. The installation went fine, but upon restarting although the BIOS of course recognises the HDD, it won't boot from it.

I get the usual message abuot DMI data change..... and then nothing; no error about not finding any bootable media; just nothing until i restart the computer.

It boots fine into windows still from my other harddrive (i've tried having the windows harddrive completely unplugged if that had anything to do with it, and i installed ubuntu without it plugged in)

My motherboard is GA-MA770-UD3 rev.1 with F8 bios version dated 08/12/2009.
HDD is https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-244-SE

For now i'll try reinstalling ubuntu again >.>

How are you able to boot into Windows? Are you getting to a GRUB prompt, then? Assuming you installed GRUB that is.

By the way, I encounter fairly similar problems every now and again, probably by installing GRUB to the wrong disk; I just change the boot order in my BIOS and all is well. :)

i'm booting to windows simply by going to boot menu on bios and choosing the windows harddrive like i would to chose the USB disk for the linux install or as i attempt to; choose the linux harddrive. and no, there's no grub prompt at all when trying to boot linux

If it wasn't clear i have 2 seperate hard drives, one NTFS with long-time windows installed on, and a new one formatted by linux installer with EXT4 containing only linux. So i'm not dual booting necessarigly. And i also installed and first tried to boot to ubuntu with the windows drive completely disconnected and it didn't work even then.
