Hello

After reading quite a few overclocking guides I decide to give it ago.

I got to the point when just by increasing the FSB Windows failed to load so I reset the BIOS which worked but when my system failed a second time the BIOS failed to reset. Now all I get is a blank screen and nothing else. Everything seems to be running (fans, graphics card, hdd's etc.).

Dear god I hope I haven't ruined my motherboard or cpu

Any help would be much appreciated.

Here's the specs for my system:

BioStar TPower I45 Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz
4 x 2GB OCZ DDR2 RAM
Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro 650W
XFX ATI Radeon HD 4870 x2
Tuniq Cooling Tower 120

ok sorry thought you had just done bios defaults the first time!

Keep trying the cmos header as my old biostar board would stay dead for a good while then all of a sudden after reset cmos for third/fourth time and bang it works!

totally power down and disconnect from wall, take cmos battery out wait 10Mins put it back in and turn on...if that dosnt work your in the poop

Try resetting the cmos with your video card out, as the board might pick up your integrated gpu when you turn on and reset your cmos, as I said exact same scenario to my biostar!

So no bios screen at all then? If you can get to bios enable boot from cd and try an xp disc or vista, worth a try!

p.s I presume by indicator that you mean 9b is on the monitor screen?

No, the indicator is on the motherboard itself.

Tried resetting the CMOS without graphics card, removed CMOS battery for awhile.
Nothing seems to be working.

Is it a socketed BIOS? They're usually only about £10 but it's really unusual for a system not to reset the BIOS. I would say it's more likely a board failure highlighted by the overclock. As it's a board sold for overclocking, I would return it as an RMA.

It's exceptionally unlikely the CPU is dead. Even if you massively over-volt then (2V+) they generally just shut down and say 'Not Today Thanks" then boot up again later.

And just to confirm, you definitely had the PSU disconnected from the wall while you had the battery out and the reset CMOS jumper crossed?

Well, a bit of googling says that the post display stopping at 9a or 9b is a corrupted boot block. Apparently there is something called BIO RE-life that is supposed to let you recover the BIOS following a bad flash from a USB stick, but no-one seems to know how it works. It does seem to be a commion issue so you should have no issue returning it for an RMA.

It can't be the CPU or it would have stopped in the 0x range apparently.
