Howdy,

Firslty I must have played and completed BioShock on all difficulties many of times on my old PC on v1.0 and v1.1, but I recently built my new machine and I felt like playing it again.

So I installed the game, after installation I booted the game up (v1.0 at this time) and the game booted to the title screen no problems. I didn;t start the game at this point as I wanted to install patch 1.1.

So I exited, installed patch 1.1 and now the game wont start at all? I click the BioShock icon (from the taskbar, the drive, the CD, it dont matter) and the BioShock logo appears on the screen like always, but then it just hangs. If I click on the logo, I then get a "BioShock.exe is not responding" and that's it?

Anyone have any ideas what this could be? Have you had the same problem?

My spec (the parts that matter) is:

Vista Ultimate Retail x64
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 @ 3.6GHz
Sapphire 4870X2 2GB
4GB Corsair Dominator PC2-8500
WD Velociraptor 150GB

Any help will be aprpeciated, I found a topic on the 2k site, but theres no answer to it?

p.s. The only other game I have played on this machine is Crysis, and that runs fine?

go to properties (In the desktop shortcut) make the text in the target box say “………Builds\Release\Bioshock.exe -dx9

Worked for me mate.

You're not running AVG AntiVirus are you? I was last summer and it decided BioShock was a virus :(

I am running that, but I remember going through that fun when the game was released :) I'll try deactivating that and see if that works.

Hmm, I don't want to run it in DX9 mode though? Or does it allow me to set it to DX10 once in the game? I'll try it anyway.

I'll post back here my results...

Nope neither worked, I tried adding -dx10 for the fun of it as well, but no joy.

Gonna do some more google surfing see if I can dig a little deeper, If I find a resolution to this problem I'll post here.

Try to remove then reinstall it but before patching run the 1.0 version and select all your gfx & game options first start the game play it a few mins then save it & patch as that may create a gamesave folder. This I found was the solution to C&C Generals not working on Vista until I could create a gamesave folder.

If that does not work make sure all your DirectX files are up to date and also check your ATI AA settings as they can cause issues.

Then as a last resort find a No DVD patch incase it is Securom related.
