Hi All

Just built a new rig - IP35 Pro, Q6600, 8800GTS 320 - jumped from single core A64 (big jump!) and now have really got the bug... Want to upgrade my 19" L90D+ to a 24" LCD. I DEFINTELY need my rig to play Bioshock maxxed, so my question is, will my 8800GTS struggle at native res on a 24"? I want nice smooth gameplay. Getting both the LCD and an 8800GTX is an option, just want to know in advance.

Cheers

My GTS 320 (630/950) runs Bioshock fine in Vista at 1920x1200 and thats with max detail and Dx10 enabled. A GTX will allow AA.

The only game where I have found the GTS struggling at 1920x1200 is World in Conflict.

similar setup to you, thought ive a 8800gtx 786 oc2, heres the replies i got.

question i asked was:

how would the bfg 8800gtx 768mb oc2 go with a 2407. i dont have a 2407 but intend to soon.

spec is as follows:

q6600 at stock (for a while)
4gb 6400
8800gtx 768mb oc2 at stock for a while
vista ultimate 32bit

everything maxxed out and highest res.

games such as

crysis
bioshock
stalker
hl2
css

It's not even "very smooth" on my 8800GTX, shooters need a good 60fps average at least, especially this one as the mouse acceleration is seriously messed up and running at 30fps just makes it worse.

I agree. I've tested it on a GTX at that res, you just about get away with it, and Bioshock isn't the most demanding game out there....

how do you folk reckon the 2900Pro will handle Bioshock at 1920x1200 resoltion? with high settings? just ordered one so i hope its good lol.

Your going to need atleast a 8800GTX for bioshock at 1920x max settings and 16x AF. I had to drop back to 1440x900 to be able to run all settings maxed out on my GX2 (and keep 60fps for the most part - does drop to 50fps at extremes) I prolly could have managed 1680x1050 but I don't have a display that does that native, only 1920x1200 or 1440x900.

Aslong as you don't use FSAA and overclock it to XT speeds the 2900 pro should provide just about playable fps at 1920x but there will be the odd place where it gets a bit hairy.

Bioshock runs smooth as silk on my GTX at 1920x1200,max settings with AA and AF,it doesn't appear to be graphically intensive at all to me.

I can't understand how you struggle to run it on a GTX tbh, some games will give the GTX a good workout at 1920x1200 with AA etc but Bioshock certainly ain't one of 'em.

I suppose if you're using crazy AA levels with Multi or supersampling it may struggle but otherwise it should run very well.

I'm using a quad at 3.5,but I'm not sure if the game is multi-core optimised, quite likely I suppose due to it being an XBOX 360 port, maybe thats why it runs so well then, can't think why else It should run so smoothly on my system but not yours.

What AA levels are you using? pretty sure I stuck to 4x with 8x AF.

No AA in Bioshock on Vista.

It's a matter of preference. don't get me wrong, it's more than playable but if the minimum framerates dip below 40fps, it ain't smooth as silk to my eyes. It's a far more pleasurable experiance at a lower res.

It can drop into mid 30's at 1920*1200 which is a bit jurky, really don't understand how anyone can call that smooth.

i wudnt say every shooter needs 60fps at least. crysis beta at 30 feels perfectly smooth imho. i guess its just down to preference, i spent a lot of time with rts's where fps wasnt 100% vital.

Should run it ok at that res with no AA.

Ah yeah, but imo, and i stress imo, it barely makes it.

Have a go with vsync on at at 1650 and you'll get a slightly worse scenario (30fps dips). If you're happy with performance then 1920 will work fine for you :)

At that res, AA is a moot point.

Completed it @ 1920x1440 and all settings maxed that actually work (no AA or AF AFAIK)and on Vista64, posted about it enough times, 70FPS Min and did prove in posts.
