Bioshock 2/Games for Windows Live problem

Thanks for all your help folks, I enabled NAT and the ports but it still did n't fix it.

Since Bioshock could n't detect GFWL, I did what anyone would do. Remove GFWL and then reinstall it. Bioshock now starts up.

Thanks again. Right, where's my diving boots and helmet ? see you in Rapture :)
Must have been an older version of GFWL then Bioshock2 should have automatically installed the newer version if it was not detected!

Thanks for trying to help me both of you,but this is beyond me.I've tried everything with no luck for 8 hours now.Without calling in some sort of PC expert I won't be able to play this or other GFWL games.Waited over a year for this game and taken holiday this week from work so I could play it.Absolutely mortified.
Guess that's Alien v Predator 3 out the window too.

Just download a NoCD crack for it or something, it's not like you haven't bought it.

Having to mess about with your router to play a single player game is absurd.

Has no one got LogMeIN and help you directly?

I was going to suggest uVNC but it would have required port forwarding so not sure if **** (last time I used that word I got a suspension for disguised swearing, I had better not get one this time :p) wanted to do that.

@ ****, just looking again at your original post and you have GFWL details posted there but what are they saying now you've made all these changes?

ie:

**** said:
Network adapter-Local area connection

Internet IP address-not signed in

Local IP address-this has my correct IP

System link address-not active

UPnP-not signed in

@Antar-all the GFWL details have remained the same.@SimonI cannot play offline. To do so,unbelievably you have to go ONline with GFWL ans tell it to go Offline.Absurd.

You have to activate the game with G.F.W.L? Because when I installed Resident Evil 5 (also G.F.W.L.) I just created an offline account with no internet connection.

Here's the video showing you how (I posted it in another thread):

If you do actually have to activate through G.F.W.L. now then pardon my ignorance.

Hit winkey+r again and this time type 'services.msc' and run it.

Scroll down the list and make sure the Universal Plug and Play* service is running. If it's not right click it and select start. If it's completely disabled you'll have to enter the properties of the service and change the start type to either manual or automatic.

*I'm assuming you're running XP but if you are running Vista/Win7 then this service is called UPnP Device Host.

Edit: Also, a good way to check if uPNP is enabled on your router is to go to "My Network Places". If it's properly enabled you should be able to see your router in there.

I can't access to GFWL menu at all to do what you said, but nice try thanks.

Just download a NoCD crack for it or something, it's not like you haven't bought it.

Having to mess about with your router to play a single player game is absurd.

Actually, the most absurd thing is people who pirate the game won't have any of these problems.

It's a bit like the unskippable adverts on DVD's that warn against piracy. People who download the film don't have to watch them, just the paying customer who just wants to watch the film they paid for.

When will publishers and film distributers learn that absolutely NON of their anti piracy measures will EVER stop piracy.

Am on vista 32.It says UPnP Device host is working on Automatic. Not sure where my network places is.Can't see it in Control panel.

Er... to be honest I'm not entirely sure where it is either as I've always found the new Network layout to be a bit convoluted on Vista/Win7.

For a start on Vista it's just called "Network" and I know mine is sitting on my start menu but that could be because I've set it that way.

Try this (though it may not be entirely accurate):

-Go to Control Panel
-Select the "Network and Internet" group
-Select "View Network Computers and Devices"

If you can see your router in there then uPNP should be working properly and I would suggest trying to re-install GFWL, I think the latest version is here.

After that I think someone else may have to help you.

Well my belkin router is in there and says it is enabled and connected to internet.

Perhaps try disabling your windows firewall altogether?

You can do this from the Network and Sharing Center, there's a link for Windows Firewall down in the bottom left hand corner.

Tried that thanks.Have turned off windows firewall and all kaspersky components.I don't even want to play this game online, just singleplayer at home.Ridiculous it'll only let me save game by going throuh GFWL.

The very last thing I can think of is to either completely turn off the firewall on your router or throw a hammer at your computer. Once these two options have been exhausted I'm afraid someone else will have to try and help. Have you paid a visit to the GFWL forums yet?

Funnily enough I tried the router firewall trick just a moment ago,but no joy.Been playing the game for a bit and it runs fine, just won't be able to save the game which pretty much makes it unplayable. Not found anything that works on the forums either. Thanks so much for trying though,I'm grateful for your time and patience.:D
