Hi all,

Heres a solution if you've bought Bioshock and found the game won't activate saying "An online activation cannot be performed. Please contact your software vendor to manually retrieve your unlock code"

*Warning By disabling startup programs you do so at your own risk*

1. Click on START and in the search box or run menu type: msconfig then press enter.

2. Select the STARTUP tab and click on the 'Disable all' button then click ok and reboot your computer.

3. Put the Bioshock DVD in the drive and when the Bioshock menu appears click on the 'Run' option. The game will now ask you to enter your code again, anter your code using capitals and minus (-) signs. Basically as it looks on the back of the game manual. You'll find the game will now activate fine. When activation is complete the game is unlocked and ready to play but before you do this move on to step 4 & 5

4. Click on START and in the search box or run menu type: msconfig then press enter.

5. Select the STARTUP tab and click on the 'Enable all' button then click ok and reboot your computer.

Have fun with Bioshock. :D

Thanks - BUT CHrist do we have enough seperate Bioshock threads. Think we might overtake the amount of Vista threads in Software !
There is even one for Technical issues, and surely this fits in well there?

Very true but with the search being down and this being a very common problem i thought i'd throw this up as a loner simply for speed and to save people money calling tech support etc.

there are 7 bioshock threads on the first page. im not having a go, but it wouldve been better if you just put it in the tech thread

Don't worry, its popular for now, but it'll all drop before you know it.

Either way i don't mind if mods move this to tech. Anyways, if this helps a few people quickly its justified and has served a perpose.

well yeah thats what i mean, if its in the tech thread then all someone has do is search once and they get all the help they need.

it is helpful, although i wouldnt want my startup to be slowed down massively by activating everything just to play the game tbh, but if its the only way then so be it

I doubt you have to turn it all off, someone will no doubt find which processes need to be stopped for it to run (most likely ones bioshock has put in there :P)
I would take a gander but i cancelled my pre-order

Its easier to just to 'Disable all' then 'Enable all' cos everyone has different things installed that can effect the activation.

Its not up to us, its up to the mods. Why should we care if there's 7 Bioshock threads?

if you read what i said, i said it would be easier for people in the future searching for technical help, when its all in one thread.

Could probably do with a warning about using msconfig 'Disable All' at your own risk. There's probably people out there who don't really understand what it does and will end up turning off things like their firewall, antivirus, driver software and all sorts.

Well that didn't work for me, I cannot for the life of me activate my copy of bioshock, so I have to do it the manul away... this could take weeks to activate as they prob have 1000's of requests!

I just called securom direct a few mins ago, got put through to someone who asked me if I had emailed...

Me: 'Nope, because I want it resolved now, not in a few hours.'

Him: 'Ok, hold on, I need two numbers from you yadda yadda...'

Me: 'ok'

Him: 'Er the activation servers are down, and will probably be up in 15 mins or so'.

Me: Click.

So you cannot activate yours either? I also have a "0" or a "o" in my code, how the hell you are suppose to know what it is is beyond me, so I have to do it twice each time.

If I cant get it working soon then I will phone the number above... which I shouldn't have to do!

it should be a requirement to strike through zeroes imho, like this(ish): Ø

Yeah I agree with that, but I just read on the 2k forums that to tell the difference between each is that a "o" is fatter than a 0... seeing as I dont have a 0 on my code I can't tell what is fatter. But the o on mine does look a bit fatter than what it should be, so I am assuming its a "o".

I just hope its the server down and not a dud key, I will be some what annoyed then! And its taking securom hours to reply to these manual requests... so I migth not get a response till next week

At least I'm not the only one going thru this!

STILL WAITING ON THE ****************************************   phone 40 mins in i am going to end up with a phone bill that is the same as what i paid for the game **** JOKE
