Bioshock crashing?

I bought my first game in years the other day and have really enjoyed my 7 hours in Bioshock so far - but the bleeding thing keeps crashing every so often. I bought it through Steam and its version 1.1. I was just wondering if other people are suffering crashes to desktop or if it's my system overheating or somefink.

It's sadly not the most stable game on some rigs. I had a problem when I first played through it that any time I tried to hack an ammo or regular vending machine it'd CTD...was highly annoying.
