is it possible to get bioshock playing in directx 10 when using xp, in a similar way to has been done with crysis? tried googling and can't see much

As far as I know its not been donw for Crysis, you can just activate the very high settings.

i dont think so, but there is pretty much no visual difference imo, the surface of the water looks a little bit shinier lol.
The crysis hack doesn't allow DX10, it just unlocks the features of 'very high' that aren't DX10 (things like higher resolution textures), the DX10 lighting etc still remains unavailable in windows XP.
Its because of the above that i get so frustrated with people comparing very high frame rates in XP with very high in vista - of course the XP frame rates will be better - it isn't having to do some of the things the vista setting is!

Also the smoke/dust doesn't band, and shadows may look softer, so for that, i wouldn't bother.
