So I bought Bioshock infinite a while back in a steam sale, but never got around to playing it properly. Now I remembered why, it crashes as soon as I click play.

It'll load up, and get to the first screen with the red and white squares, but crashes instantly, within a few seconds of loading.

I've tried re-installing it, and have used the verify tool, no luck.

As far as I know my computer is stable. No other games have this issue, and it's basically rock solid with everything other than this game.

The error details I'm given are:

"Fatal error!

My computer is:

2700K
GTX 580
8GB DDR3 RAM

I've tried disabling my second monitor, but no change.

Any suggestions?

Try installing it to the system drive and see if you get the same problem. I'm assuming D: is a data drive?

Yeah D is a data drive. I've got the OS installed on a small (64 GB) SSD, so haven't got much room left over for any steam games, so directed steam at a separate drive.

I'll see if I have enough room on the SSD to move it over. :)

What sound card are you running, something like Realtek? Try downloading the latest sound drivers and re-installing them.

Also how did you move the Program Files folder, or is it just that you created a new folder called "Program Files" for games etc?

Just the standard onboard Realtek stuff. Seems that all the drivers are up to date.

When I installed Steam I just set it to download the games to a different drive, as I wouldn't have enough space on the SSD any of them.

If you look under Program and Features which versions of MS Visual C++ can you see installed? Also what version of Windows are you running?

There's quite a few versions listed actually!

One 2005, five 2008, two 2010, and two 2012 ones. Each with their own version numbers. Is there any in particular I should be looking for?

Running Windows 7, should have mentioned that in the OP, completely forgot sorry.

Going from my install 2008/2010 x86. I would try running the installer again for both versions, you can find them in X:\***\Steam\SteamApps\common\BioShock Infinite\Binaries\Prerequisites reboot after each one. If prompted you are looking to do a repair install.

Try getting the latest PhysX software. It seems to fix most crashes I have with a variety of games.

Trying these now, will let you know what happens, thanks!

Bah, no luck!

Been reading some reports that the game doesn't like having the "My Documents" folder mapped to a different drive than the windows drive. So I've reset this, and re-installing now.

Let's see if this can fix it... Really starting to want to give up on this game now!

On the bright side, the game sucks...so you're not really missing out ;)

In all seriousness if you're absolutely 100% sure that your computer is stable and you're desperate to play this then the next step is probably a Windows reinstall. If that doesn't work I would start to doubt the stability of my rig...

I'm 99% sure it's stable, I can't remember any crashes in general use, and every other game I've played has been completely fine.

From googling it does seem that this is a fairly common issue, which is frustrating. Reinstalling again now that I've set all the folders back to default, last attempt!
