Bioshock Performance under geforce 7

Downloaded the demo last night and with the following spec i'm getting barely 30 FPS with V-sync off which does causing a lot of tearing.

X2 2.5ghz
7950GT 512mb 162.34 (beta drivers)
2gb ddr400
xp and vista 32bit with above drivers.

I was running at 1280 X 1024 with all settings on high.
Any ideas how to get it to run better.
I was expecting it to run a bit better than 25-30fps

Its pretty much as high as it goes, its an early x2 3800+,

I feel that the game is cpu limited though as in another pc i tested it on a core 2 duo at 3ghz and a x1950pro and it was much much more smoother.

I dont get how peeps get tearing, I aint seen it in real life on any my PC's and thats since 2001.

I have seen pics of it on sites though, every time I install a driver I turn of V-Sync for both OpenGL and Direct3D in Rivatuner and in any game menu is appears in.

With it on in Bioshock I only get 75FPS MAX as thats the 75HZ limit without real 64bit Mitsubishi Drivers @ 1920x1440 for my Monitor, bummer cause my drivers will install in Vista 32bit letting me raise HZ beyond Vistas limit of 100HZ on desktop and in game also (depending on RES), with V-Sync off I got 75FPS MIN.

You dont have to play it with MAX settings for it too look good.

Try these 163.44 drivers, they help performace loads

Done that, they are slightly better,

Is anyone else running them on a 7900 series?

Got a stock BFG 7800gt oc here.

It's running in xp with a stock 4200+ x2 and 2gb of ram. 1280x1024 with everything set to high gives very smooth frame rates!

What drivers, have you tried fraps to measure fps?

I have a 7950GX2 and i'll be downloading it tonight to see how it runs so i'll let you know.

Not faster than my personal rig!

Was testing an upgrade for a work colleague with that spec and had the demo as i was taking it home for my own use!

TBH i was really impressed at its performance - super smooth even with a lot of particle effects going on. Not sure of drivers or frame rate as i didn't try fraps.

Will check tomorrow for you if he hasn't picked the pc up.

Ask him to turn SLi off and then he'll be playing with something slightly faster than a 7900gt.

When i first used vista my GX2 worked like that as nvidia took ages sorting an SLi driver that worked.

unfortunatley the game just runs slow and does not scale too well back.

in game options, disable the high quality shaders and you should see a very big speed boost. other than that not much you can do. its just a 15-20% better version of rainbow 6 vegas on performance. looks like the unreal engine 3 is just a load of crap.

/waits for crysis to show them all how its done.

I'm running everything maxed out on a 7950GX2 with older drivers (the bioshock ones seem to be really buggy on both my PCs with 7 series cards) and fps average is 70 and it never drops under 50... however that would put a single 7950GT at about 25-35 fps with everything maxed out...

Just managed to get the bioshock drivers stable (I think) performance in bioshock is up 5fps but still getting the odd graphic glitch...

7900GTO 512mb here and my framerate barely dropped bellow 30fps on max settings 1440x900 with the new drivers.

tbh framerate doesn't make much odds in this game... Unreal Tech ftl even with 150fps solid the mouse lag makes it feel like 20fps when looking around...
