Hi,

I have just ordered a Biostar TA790GX 128 with a Phenom II X2 550 BE.

It comes on wednesday but i presume it will come with an old bios, as most do.

What i want to know is, if i upgrade the BIOS, will i loose the Advanced Clock Control options?

Please can someone with a board and the new BIOS advise.

Many Thanks

PS:

The latest BIOS on the Biostar websites are:

2009-06-03 - 78DBA525.BST - Support Phenom II and Athlon II CPU
2009-01-13 - 78DBA113.BST - Update CPU micro code. (with Biostar logo)

I built the system.

Checked the BIOS before installing the latest flash.

I still had the options for ACC afterwards.

However, the lad i built the system for went portugal the following day and we did not get a chance to try unlocking and overclocking.

Hes back middle of this week.

I also sent an email to biostar asking them about this prior to posting on here. I received a reply about two days ago.

"Upon request from AMD we have had to remove the ACC option during the last bios update"

But like i said the option is still there.

I will be posting at the weekend to let you know if it works.

Thanks. i heard about the latest bios being not able to unlock but there are modded bioses for this mobo around. Please if you remember post the stepping of the 550. there are also a few databases with reports about steppings & unlocks.

good luck!

Hi, i finally build my system. The mobo has the jan bios so I was able to unlock my 550 to 4 cores but I didn't overclock it yet.

i don't understand very well the bios, do you disable the onboard gfx if you use a dedicated video card? i did but not sure if it is the correct setting as i thought that I could use the onboard card when surfing and then the 4890 when gaming to save some watts but not sure if is possible

cheers

Phenom II X2 550 Unlock failed.

Using TA790GX 128.

2009-06-03 - 78DBA525.BST

2009-06-03 - Modded

No luck at all, poor OC aswell. Got it to 3.7 Ghz. 205mhz x 18.

Was 0921 FPMW.

Gutted, but still the best CPU for the money, which was the aim.
