After great consideration, we are closing down the BioWare forums, effective August 26, 2016. The Star Wars: The Old Republic forums will continue to operate; however, our public boards for Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and legacy BioWare titles will no longer be available.

Taken from Here

Bit of an odd decision, having said that given how toxic & downright weird BSN can be at times I'm surprised they haven't pulled the plug sooner tbh, still I shall miss my daily dose of BSN oddness once it's gone. :(

What? That's really weird - their forums have always been popular, back through BSN and the old forums before that.

Will we have to discuss things like ME:A on reddit then, are they going to have game specific forums, or is EA going to provide some community feature through origin? There's no way in hell I'm using facebook, twitter or similar for this.

Also I don't get how this is beneficial to build up hype for ME:A when most of the hardcore ME fans would discuss on BSN.

Nooooo... why does everything have to go to social media these days? :( I can't stand twitter and am ambivalent about FB (only using it because my hobby groups have decided it's the "best" place).

Those forums are an excellent resource - I spent far too much time on them in the past getting help with NWScript from the great community. :p

I still lurk there. :(

All I know about the Bioware forums is that they were a rich source of cringy apologists, extreme far-left views, and retarded moderating decisions. When someone posts up a screenshot from the Bioware forums on other sites, you just know it's going to be gold.

I'd say good riddance to bad rubbish, but I'm honestly going to miss the dreg that people repost from that cesspit.

'Social media' is the worst place ever to try and discuss anything.

Forums are where it's at. Shame to see this sort of trend taking place. Seems people dont really want nuance and analysis, just want to argue black and white on-the-box points without ever really being able to expand on things, which I think is absolutely crucial for any sort of meaningful or constructive discussion.

EDIT: I also find forums far superior to Reddit as well. Reddit's format and upvote/downvote system is not conducive to easy-to-follow and linear conversation, instead devolving into strings of broken up dialogue combined with the voting system that just orders the comments based on popularity, even going as far as completely hiding unpopular comments.

I'm still taking this all in. I'm gutted. The ME:A forum was a bit ridiculous with people clutching and anything resembling a straw. However, I love reading up on new things I hadn't discovered in the Mass Effect games or getting tips about the multiplayer. It's not going to stop me enjoying the games, but I feel like a massive part of the ME experience/universe has been ripped away. I'm absolutely gutted and pretty fuming.

man it was a cess pool - I had a temp ban because of a meme I'd put up for ME3 - and it wasn't a bad meme; someone just complained - I was one of the big posters there for ME3 - they shut down a few threads that were massive; kept clean - sep for maybe one or two knobs...

Instead of banning them *which they'd continue to troll to get subs closed down they didn't like; no matter how many complained against them; they didn't get banned; until they pushed it too far and even then took a lot of people's complaints to get them banned*

There is a lot of useful information in some of the subs - but some were so bad.

Foreshadowing the **** storm from people when they finally get on with ME:A ?

I remember having a quick look on there after ME3 ending and dear god it made 4chan look normal.

Indoctrination Theory confirmed! (ah, that takes me back!)

I won't miss it. No proper discussion was really possible as every thread descended in to 'It is crap, Bioware are ****/It is amazing, Bioware are Gods'

That's a real shame. I just bought Neverwinter Nights and Neverwinter Nights 2 on GOG and was planning on learning how to use the module / addon creator to make some cool campaigns and the Bioware forums were a really good place to look up information on scripting.

Does anyone know if there are any other forums available that have this kind of information available? I'd love to get involved in making some campaigns.

I did a hell of a lot of NWN scripting running my own server back in the day. It's amazing what you can do with it and I created some really cool weapons and puzzles with it. :) Those forums were an excellent resource and I learned a tonne from there - very helpful, clever people. :(

I still have my module saved somewhere. Ahhh memories.

There are still a few persistent worlds running (eg: Amia) so may be worth giving that a go.

Yeah. I used to have the original Neverwinter Nights when it was first released and did some playing around with it but then I lost the discs and never touched it again until recently when I bought it on GOG. I remember having quite a lot of fun playing around with the scripting engine.

I'll check out some of the persistent worlds as you suggest and see if I can find any decent information on it on any of their sites.
